Student Brought Flare Gun, BB Gun To Middle School In Leesburg: Police
A student at Smart's Mill Middle School brought a BB gun and a flare gun to class on Tuesday, authorities said.

LEESBURG, VA — A student brought a flare gun and a BB gun to Smart's Mill Middle School on Tuesday, the Leesburg Police Department said.
No injuries were reported, according to authorities.
The police department has not publicly identified the student due to a Virginia law that protects the identities of minors.

Police officials said two students were charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
Around 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, school staff at Smart's Mill Middle School received a tip that a student may be carrying a weapon. They said they conducted an "administrative search" and found the BB gun and the flare gun, which was unloaded.

"All reporting protocols were followed, including reporting to LCPS Safety & Security and the Leesburg Police Department, School Resource Officer," the police department said in a news release.
Authorities filed criminal petitions after a consultation with the office of the commonwealth's attorney.
