Thanksgiving 2020: What's Open, Closed In Leesburg

LEESBURG, VA — Thursday, Nov. 26 is Thanksgiving Day and a federal holiday, which means government offices, schools and some businesses will take a break in its observance.

Here's a look at what's open and what's closed in Leesburg on Thursday and Thanksgiving weekend:

Town of Leesburg Offices: All town offices will be closed on Nov. 26-27.

Loudoun County Offices: County offices will close at noon Nov. 25 and remain closed through Friday, Nov. 27.

Loudoun County Schools: Schools and division offices will be closed Nov. 25-27.

Post offices and mail: Closed Thanksgiving Day. No mail will be delivered.

County Courts: All Loudoun County courts will be closed Nov. 25-27.

State Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed Nov. 26.

Loudoun County Transit: Loudoun County Transit will be closed Thanksgiving Day. Service will operate on a significantly reduced schedule on Black Friday. View Thanksgiving Day service changes online.

Metro: On Thursday, local routes will operate on a Sunday schedule. Park & Ride routes will not operate. MetroRail and MetroRapid will operate on a Sunday schedule. Local MetroBus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Libraries: All Loudoun County Public Library locations and book returns will be closed for Thanksgiving from noon on Wednesday, Nov. 25, through Friday, Nov. 27. Services will resume Saturday, Nov. 28.

Historic Sites and Museums: The Loudoun County Visitor's Center is closed Thanksgiving Day.

Trash Collection: There will be no trash or recycling collection in the town of Leesburg on Thanksgiving Day. Due to the holiday, all remaining collections will be shifted by one day.

The revised schedule for trash and recycling collection is as follows:

  • Friday, Nov. 27: SW Leesburg plus Meadowbrook
  • Saturday, Nov. 28 – SE Leesburg

Commercial curbside customers will not have trash collection on Thursday, Nov. 26. Trash and recycling will be collected from commercial curbside customers on Friday, Nov. 27.

Landfill/Recycling: The Loudoun County Landfill and Recycling Drop-Off Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day. Both will reopen normal hours Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
