Tis the Season for Stress and Heart Attacks.

Yes it is a wonderful time of the year.  It should be a great time to celebrate the prior year and to celebrate the birth of Jesus and celebrate whatever other religions high holidays are scheduled during this period in time.  

This time of the year is also the high time for Heart Attacks and Sudden Cardiac Death (Cardiac Arrest).  Unfortunately, it is also a very stressful time of the year. This Stress is pressed upon on our emotional, mental and physical health and wellbeing.  The stress that is put on a human can produce all kinds of medical conditions including severe cardiac conditions, up and including Myocardial Infarctions (MI or Heart Attacks) and Sudden Cardiac Death (Cardiac Arrest). 

The National American Heart Association statistics show a major increase in cardiac incidents during the Christmas Holiday Season.   During this time period let us first take some time to help others and help others to prevent heart attacks or Cardiac Arrests.

-       Please watch what you eat.  Don’t eat too much. Eating too much can put a strain on your heart and cause a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest.

-       Help people with medical conditions and older or frail people with stressful situations. Like shoveling snow or helping them decorate for the holidays.

-       Take time out to rest to get rid of stress.

-       Don’t party too hard and drink to much alcohol.  This too can put a strain on your heart.

-       Exercise to keep healthy and cut down on stress.

-       Learn CPR and how to use an AED –Automatic External Defibrillator.

-       Advocate for Local Businesses to have CPR Trained employees and to have AED’s on site to protect their customers.

Taking some basic steps can prevent heart attacks. Learning CPR and the use of an AED could save a life.
