Tuscarora’s Kuhn Pitches No Hitter vs. Freedom

Dynamic pitching and explosive offense gives Tuscarora 10-0 win

The Tuscarora Huskies softball team put together a remarkable performance on Friday night, defeating Freedom High in five innings.  The ten runs put up on the board by the Huskies offense, along with the no hitter from Ally Kuhn, gave Tuscarora the early shut out victory.

Tuscarora claimed the early lead, getting three runs in the first inning.  Kathryn Hammler started it all off with a slap bunt base hit.  She then stole second base and scored on a double by teammate Bridget Bowls.  The pitcher Kuhn also doubled in the inning, gaining an RBI and giving her team the 3-0 lead going into the second.

After batting around in the first, Tuscarora began the second inning with the top of the lineup.  Leading off, Hammler once again beat out another slap bunt. However, the Huskies could not get a run across the plate this time as they left the bases loaded.

Kuhn recorded her third consecutive three up- three down inning in the top of third. The Huskies offense added two runs onto their lead in the bottom of the inning, one of which was knocked in by first baseman, Jami Adler.

The perfect game was broken up in the fourth when Kuhn gave up a walk to Freedom’s number two hitter in the inning.  That turned out to be Freedom’s only base runner of the night, as the no hitter was still in tact.

The Huskies tacked on one run in the bottom of the fourth, giving Tuscarora a comfortable 6-0 advantage.

The Lady Eagles were shut down in the next inning on three consecutive pop outs.

Freedom’s defense could not put a stop to the Huskies offensive tear in the fifth.  Hammler lead off with a walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.  The next batter, Bowls, was hit by a pitch, putting two runners on with power hitter Jami Adler on deck.  Adler smashed a three run homer, clearing the bases and taking the score to 9-0.

Freedom then made a pitching change in hopes of halting the Tuscarora rally. Though with runners already on base and momentum on their side, the Huskies quickly pounded in their game winning (tenth) run of the ballgame.

After the game, Tuscarora’s star pitcher Ally Kuhn was thrilled with her no hitter, but said, “I’m pretty mad about the one walk though…would have had a perfect game.”

Head coach of the Lady Huskies, Megan Smith simply smiled and gave a one word response, “Awesome. That about sums it up” in reference to her pitcher’s spectacular game.  Coach Smith was thoroughly pleased with Friday’s game, saying “They definitely played how they should have played all year.”

Tuscarora will play their next game at James Wood on April 26.
