LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — On Monday, residents and businesses in Loudoun County will take a moment to honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.

As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Loudoun County.

Before you head out, here’s a roundup of what’s open and what’s closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in our area:

  • Loudoun County government offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 17
  • Loudoun County Public Schools: Closed on Monday, Jan. 17
  • Courts: All courts in Loudoun County will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17
  • Post offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 17
  • DMV: Closed on Monday, Jan. 17
  • Metro: Metrorail and Metrobus typically run on a Saturday schedule on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Due to the continued impacts of the derailment and 7000-series investigation, Metrorail service continues to be reduced. Visit www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables for more information.
  • Ida Lee Park Recreation Center: Open regular hours on Monday, Jan. 17
  • Loudoun transit: Commuter bus services and Metro Connection buses will not operate on Monday, Jan. 17. Local routes will operate on their regular schedule.
  • Leesburg trash collection: Trash will be collected on a regular schedule on Monday, Jan. 17.
