Worldwide Photo Walk Planned for Saturday

Local photographers are invited to capture images of downtown Leesburg during the fourth annual event

Local photographer David L. Crooks will lead a photo walk through downtown Leesburg, on Saturday. The walk is part of the 4th Annual Worldwide Photo Walk, organized by Scott Kelby, president of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.

This year, the Worldwide Photo Walk will take place on October 1 and 2 at over 1,000 locations around the globe. Last year, more than 30,000 photographers participated in the 3rd Annual Worldwide Photo Walk and took an estimated 6 million images.

“We had about 45 photographers participate in last year’s downtown Leesburg photo walk,” Crooks said. “The feedback from that event was so positive. I am really looking forward to this year’s walk. ”

This will be the second year that Crooks has led the Leesburg walk. An amateur photographer himself, Crooks said he enjoys working with other photographers to capture the downtown area.

“I’ve been on other photo walks before and I think it’s a great way to network with other photographers,” Crooks said. “You get to see other people’s equipment, how someone else takes pictures, and you get to know other people in the area.”

Middleburg resident Jennifer Eaton said she participated in the event last year. Although she no longer lives in Leesburg she still plans on walking this weekend.

“With a historic town like Leesburg, there is a lot of great architecture, and the small side streets are a treasure trove of unique vantage points and opportunities,” Eaton said. “I chose to participate as a means to meet other photo enthusiasts and share tips and tricks as well as do some networking.

“I would definitely recommend the event. It’s a great chance to meet people with a similar interest or background, socialize, learn new tips on photography and see Leesburg from a new perspective,” Eaton said. “We miss so much being in a rush all the time in our cars – the places we can walk have so much to offer that you wouldn’t see otherwise.”

Saturday’s event will begin at 9:45 a.m. on the Town Green, located at 25 West Market Street. The walk is scheduled to take about three hours and will conclude at where participants will be invited to share their results.

Crooks said there is a limit of 50 people who can participate. As of Wednesday, there were still 22 spots available. The walk is free and open to the public.
