• Construction begins to turn former Lorton landfill into new public park (ffxnow.com) — Work is underway to transform the former Lorton Landfill on Furnace Road into Overlook Ridge Park, bringing trails, a playground, an amphitheater, and sweeping Potomac River views to local residents by 2027. Fairfax County and Waste Management say safety and environmental monitoring remain priorities as they convert the county's highest point into a new gathering place for families, birders, and neighbors in the Lorton area.
