Body Recovered from Potomac River

Police: Little information available at this point in the investigation.

Police have recovered a body from the Potomac River in the area east of Alexandria.

The body was pulled from the water at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, according to Cpl. Rodney Gause, spokesman for the Prince George’s County Police Department. It is not clear where the body was found, although an initial alert mentioned the Alexandria area and Hog Island.

Hog Island is located just east of where Morningside Lane intersects with the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

“The only thing we have is a body recovered,” he said. “We don’t have male or female or anything like that.”

Gause said he did not know how far offshore the body was found. Firefighters from the city of Alexandria helped out by providing personnel and fire boats, which are capable of performing water rescue functions, said Robert Rodriguez, Alexandria chief fire marshal.

“We assisted with them this morning,” Rodriguez said. “ I don’t have the exact extent of what they did.”
