Fall in Love with the Arts
Here at the Workhouse Arts Center we just getting started with fall and we have much to look forward to.
The kids are back in school, the sun sets earlier and cooler weather is just around the corner. As we all settle down from the busy summer of 2012, we wonder what to do in our spare time without the community pool, blistering sun and summer travel. Here at the Workhouse Arts Center we just getting started with fall and we have much to look forward to.
Why not try something new? The Workhouse Arts Center offers over 300 different art classes for both children and adults. Learn how to get into the grove with dance courses like Hula; cook like a chef with a variety of culinary courses; bring out your inner artist with glassblowing or ceramics; and stay in shape in exciting new ways like Zumba. If you are a person who isn’t into commitment, the Workhouse offers an excellent selection of one day workshops.
On September 8, the Workhouse Arts Center will open its doors for an Education Open House, allowing the public an opportunity to view demonstrations and participate in workshops. Be sure to bring the family as the demonstrations and workshops will be appropriate for all age groups and there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy. The Workhouse will also be offering the Friends discount on registration for everyone who signs up for classes during the Open House.

Even though the weather is getting cooler, the dance floor at the Workhouse is heating up with the return of Ballroom Social Dance in September. The evening begins at 7:30pm with a mini-lesson led by our instructor, featuring a different style of dance each month. Open dancing begins at 8pm. Complimentary refreshments and a cash bar will be available, dress code is casual and all skill levels are welcome. If you both enjoy cooking and learning new skills, bring your date to Date Night: Chef’s Table to work side-by-side on a menu designed to inspire the warm fuzzies every time. If you and your date are extra ambitious, you can cook and dance! Head over early at 7:30pm for the mini-lesson, go downstairs at 8pm for Chef’s Table and after you are done cooking, return upstairs and dance the rest of the night away.
New this fall, Dinner and a Movie Night will showcase a great classic film and a feast to match it! Not only will you be able to enjoy a special screening in the company of fellow cinema-philes, you will also be treated to a three-course dinner from a menu selected to compliment the film’s theme. October’s feature film will be Plan 9 From Outer Space, paired with a contemporary spin on classic 1950s All-American comfort food with a sci-fi twist. November’s screening will feature Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece To Catch A Thief, blended with menu choices that evoke the French Riveria and the Mediterranean Coast.
