Friends of Mason Neck State Park--Organizational Meeting on Tuesday, June 11@7pm
Anyone interested in Mason neck State Park is invited to attend.
Most of Virginia's 35 state parks have a "Friends" group that supports the park and Mason Neck is joining the list. The first meeting is Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Visitors Center, and anyone interested is invited . If you can't attend but would like to stay informed, send an email to masonneck@dcr.virginia.gov or call the park at (703) 339-2380.
In general, Friends groups organize special events, raise money, schedule workdays and partner with local businesses. They also contact the media and legislature to get the word out on issues important to parks.
As an example, the Friends of Lake Anna State Park (FOLASP) "actively participate in the mission of Lake Anna State Park. That mission is to conserve the natural, cultural, scenic, and recreational resources of the park, as well as to provide a variety of recreational and educational opportunities and to promote environmental stewardship."

What the MNSP Friends do will be entirely up to the members.
There are also benefits to park volunteers: Depending on how many hours you contribute, you'll receive a one-year or lifetime entrance pass to all Virginia State Parks, camping and cabin use privileges, a certificate of appreciation and much more. In addition, volunteer hours count as job experience when applying for employment with Virginia State Parks or for any state government slot.
