Friends of Richard Byrd Library Mystery
The Friends of Richard Byrd Library in Springfield is getting ready for their big summer sale on May 30th – June 1st.

In an earlier blog, we talked about all the wonderful things going on this summer at your local library. We mentioned the Friends of the Library often fund the Library’s special events and summer reading programs. But how do they get the money?
Friends groups host used books sales from donated books is the short answer. For example, the Friends of Richard Byrd Library in Springfield is getting ready for their big summer sale on May 30th – June 1st. They have over 10,000 books for sale – many in pristine condition and for prices that can’t be beat. While their books are usually great, this sale includes books with a mysterious past.
The mystery begins in late December when a truck pulled up to the back of Richard Byrd Library to deliver over 400 professionally packed books. No one noticed any lettering on the truck to indicate where it came from. As the Friends unpacked, they realized they were looking at new, beautiful books. Art books, decorating, cooking – the list goes on. While shoppers always find treasures at our sale, this time the treasures will be even more bountiful. Whether you want beautiful birthday, graduation, and father's day book gifts on a budget or vacation and summer reading for the whole family, come to the Richard Byrd Library, 7250 Commerce Street, on May 30 – June 1. Your purchases will fund the library’s summer programs – that’s a win for everyone!
