Literacy Council's Fall Classes are Underway!
LCNV provides low-level English instruction to adults. LCNV's Lorton Class started last month. You can help adults in your community develop the English skills they need to succeed!

Every LCNV Class turns into its own little community, and every community is like a family. Lorton Senior Center is one of our largest class sites, and we believe that's because of the strong sense of community among the students. At class registration this fall, students were lined up outside the door an hour before start time. Luckily, several of our volunteers arrived a few minutes early to help enroll students.
One student, Ceci, who had first taken English classes with the Council a few years ago, signed up again last month. Ceci is a joy to be around and an extremely hard working student. She reaches out to her fellow classmates from different countries, and in turn, the group gets increasingly comfortable with each other and with English.
Ceci demonstrates the kind of student LCNV's programs work for. She had to take a break from classes for a few years, because she pursued on new opportunities to work, birth a new son, and help her family through some adjustments. She’s back because she still needs low-level English and LCNV meets that need. She still has a complicated life and a limited budget, but we're here to make it work for her. We're confident that she'll graduate from our program soon and be able to move on to new opportunities. For now, we're excited to see her grow and progress and encourage her classmates to build that same confidence.
