Lorton Rainfall July 2 - 8, 2012

Daily rainfall totals for previous 24 hours measured at 6am from my rain gauge in Lorton.

I think we can all agree last week was a hot and relatively dry week. There were 11 straight days with a high over 95 degrees at National Airport. The previous longest stretch of hot weather (highs over 95 degrees) in 141 years of record keeping was eight days.  

On Sunday, the temperature at National reached 106 degrees for one minute - which ties the hottest temperature ever recorded at that location (records set August 6, 1930 and July 20, 1918) though it only remained that warm for one minute.  An official observation has to be sustained for at least three minutes, so the old records still stand.  It was hot, though!
