Lorton rainfall Oct 8-14, 2012; Fall foliage update
Daily rainfall totals for previous 24 hours measured at 6am from my rain gauge in Lorton.
It’s the time of year for fall foliage in Virginia. The Virginia Department of Forestry reports that in southwest Virginia, noticeable color change is underway. Color change can be seen in tree species such as poplars, sweet gum, dogwood and maple. At this time, peak colors are expected in the mountains during mid to late October; the Piedmont and Coastal Plain are expected to peak during late October and early November. For an up-to-date report on fall color, call the Fall Foliage Hotline: 1-800-424-LOVE. The National Park Service reports that fall color in Shenandoah National Park is currently at 75% to 90% of saturation overall.
