Hello. I’m Gari Plehal, Branch Manager at the Lorton Library. I hope you’re familiar with your local branch, and if not, perhaps through this blog I can persuade you to come visit us.
The branch has been in its current location at 9520 Richmond Highway for about 23 years. We opened here on April 7, 1990. Recently I marked my first year as Branch Manager and what a wonderful year it has been! I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the staff here as well as our customers.
As I add entries to the blog, I hope to tell you all about materials and services we have that you may not know about. We’re especially excited about our newest program; an English Conversation Group which occurs every Tuesday from 5:15-6:15 pm. This is a drop-in program and all are welcome. You don’t need to sign up. Just come when you can. It’s a wonderful chance for you to practice speaking English.

In the works is a Chess Club. Currently we’re looking for some adult volunteers to lead this group. And we’re gearing up for the Summer Reading Program which starts on the day that Fairfax County Public Schools close. We’ll have reading logs for children and students from birth through 12th grade. By reading a certain number of books during the summer you can earn a coupon book with some free gifts and discounted products from local vendors.
Stop in and say hello! A library card is free for anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Fairfax County.
