Summer fun at the library

Throughout Fairfax County, your local libraries are gearing up to offer you an amazing time through special events and summer reading programs.

Usually when you think about summer you visualize yourself at the beach or swimming pool.  Why not add the library to this vision?  Throughout Fairfax County, your local libraries are gearing up to offer you an amazing time through special events and summer reading programs.

Take the Richard Byrd Library in Springfield for example.  They will have 5 family programs for all ages, 5 school-age programs, and one program for teens.  In addition, there will be lots of preschool programs, including one with the costumed character Martha the dog from the Martha Speaks books by Susan Meddaugh.

But summer fun at the library doesn’t stop there.  There are summer reading programs for preschoolers through rising sixth graders called “Dig Into Reading” and a teen program is for rising seventh grade through rising twelfth grade themed  “Beneath the Surface.” These programs keep kids reading by offering coupons, prizes, and just great books.  The Richard Byrd Library even has a summer reading program for adults.

The special events and reading programs throughout the county libraries are paid for in large part by the Friends of the Library.  Check back for our Friends of Richard Byrd Library Mystery blog on May 29th to hear how the Friends raise money to fund these programs.  And remember, when you think summer, think Library!
