New Vendors This Week

Valley View Bakery of Lorton, though down the road a bit from the market, will bring us a veritable cornucopia of baked goods, including European-style breads and pastries, really good cookies, tea cakes, and wonderful cheesecakes -- though not all of these items every week. Two African gentlemen, both with a great story to tell, have teamed up to open a bakery here in Northern Virginia and are moving from wholesale to retail sales. Smart Markets hopes to help them succeed.

So let them know what you like, what you would like see more of, and what you’d like for them to try out on you. So far everything we have sampled has been very good, and we are still working our way through all of their offerings.

Special Events This Week

Patty Repko, our newest in-house expert on personal nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices for you and your family, will be with us this week under the white tent from 4–6 p.m. to share ideas for healthy snacks that you and the kids can make at home this summer. We hope to schedule Patty to come monthly throughout the season to share her knowledge and respond to questions. This will definitely be an interactive session.

We will be doing green smoothie demos and offering healthy snack samples, with lots of great recipes and handouts about snacks that you can incorporate into your daily routine.
