Dear Shopper,

We have only two more markets before Christmas, but vendors who are accepting special holiday orders or offering discounts will continue to do so at both. Some are even providing free delivery, so ask at each stand if you are looking to surprise someone with some homemade holiday goodies, wonderful locally roasted coffee, or even a box of Celtic Pasties or Peruvian empanadas for the winter months. How about a gift certificate for Uncle Fred’s BBQ or for a dozen freshly baked pizzas? These are great ideas for the single guy or gal who works too hard and too late to prepare a decent meal at home.

We will be closed Thursday, December 27 to allow our vendors time with their families. We will return for an abbreviated winter market every other week in January, February and March.

In the meantime, enjoy the benefits -- there aren’t many -- of global warming, including the continuing amazing display of veggies at Ignacio’s stand and the great apples and winter root vegetables at Chester’s. They won’t be with us for long, unless winter never comes this year.

Thank you so much for your support this year, and we hope you continue to display that loyalty to your local purveyors throughout the winter season. The support we receive this winter will influence our ability to build a bigger and better year-round Lorton market next season. And it will also influence our inclination to consider a weekly winter market next year. If we are wanted, we will be there.

The Workhouse Arts Center is collecting for Toys for Tots, and there will be a large collection box at the market this Thursday. Please put all that holiday spirit to good use and bring a new toy for a child.
