Cancelled: No Fourth of July Parade in Lorton This Year
The 2015 parade is canceled due to the World Police & Fire Games, organizers said.

Tonight you can celebrate Independence Day early at a concert and fireworks in Lorton; but some readers are wondering about Lorton’s annual 4th of July parade.
The annual Fourth of July parade in Lorton is canceled for 2015. Here’s what organizers said on their Facebook page:
After 25 years without fail, the 2015 parade is being canceled due to the second largest sporting event in the World is being held in Fairfax County. The World Police/Fire Games is hosting over 10,000 participants from around the world and is second only to the Olympics in number of athletes.

The Fairfax Police Department is responsible for everyone’s safety during the events that last for weeks and will need all of their event personal to cover all the venues. All public events in the County that require any V.D.O.T Road Use Permit are being denied, We apologize that this information got to us only a week ago.
What we can recommend is everyone head to beach, head out to other D.C. area events and enjoy the World Police Fire Game as they will not return to this area for a long time.’ Here is the website for the games:
