Emissions From Waste Plant Fire Not Hazardous in Lorton: County
The two-alarm fire created plenty of smoke but, according to Fairfax County officials, none of it contained remnants of hazardous waste.

LORTON, VA — All that smoke you saw — and may still see — coming from the the aftermath of last Thursday night's fire at the Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Complex poses no public health hazard, county officials said Monday.
No hazardous waste is accepted at the facility, which only accepts waste generated from households, offices and retailers in the county.
Recycling collection in the county will not be affected; rather, recyclables will be sent to other facilities.

Residents who normally use the Lorton site are encouraged to use the facility at 4618 West Ox Road in Fairfax.
