A Monthly Community Series at Cranford UMC: Noel Vietmeyer

Monthly Community Lecture Series at Cranford: Friday, April 15th  7:30-8:30

Please join Lorton author, Noel Vietmeyer as he discusses Norman Borlaug and latest book series Borlaug: The Mild Mannered Maverick Who Fed a Billion People.

Vietmeyer, a long time resident of Mason Neck earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of California.  During a long career at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC he produced over 30 books describing innovations that can benefit Africa, Asia and Latin America.

It was at the National Academy of Sciences that Vietmeyer and Norman Borlaug (Nobel Peace Prize winner) first met and over several years the two met and traveled together and little by little Borlaug shared over 300 stories that now make up the heart and soul of this multi-volume biography of the father of our food supply.

Please come out and meet the author and hear about the amazing tales of life and death adventures as well as coincidences, escapes from financial disaster, squabbles, with those who disagreed with his methods (virtually everyone), and the farmers who many times came to his rescue just as the program was to be axed.

Friday, April 15, 2011 at 7:30-8:30.  Books will be available to be purchased and/or signed.
