Lorton Meteorite Part of Smithsonian Hearings

Meteorite hit a Lorton doctor's office in 2010 and was tied up in a legal dispute.

The Lorton meteorite that crashed into a doctor’s office in Lorton in 2010 is on Capitol Hill today as part of appropriations hearings for the Smithsonian.

The 5.4 billion-year-old Lorton meteorite, which was caught up in a legal dispute between the doctors who wanted to donate it to the Smithsonian and the building’s landlord, will be on display at some point in the future at a Smithsonian museum, the Washington Post reported.

The small, heavy rock was part of a display showing some of the rare but scientifically important objects the Smithsonian Institution museums contain.

The meteorite dropped into the in on January 18, 2010 and was estimated to be worth $50,000.
