It’s been a wet summer. How wet? Through 7/28/2013 I’ve had 16.04” of rain since June first. Comparing that to Dulles Airport totals for all of June and July since observations began in 1963 shows that only 1972 had more rain - 19.72”, much of it from Hurricane Agnes, where 13.65” of rain fell from June 20-23, 1972. This year’s hurricane season shouldn’t be discounted, as we’re just getting warmed up, as shown in the accompanying graphic from NOAA. Tropical activity takes an upswing in mid-August, peaking in mid September.
My rain gauge in Lorton recorded 1.32” of rain last week.
