Lorton precipitation amounts September 2-8, 2013

Now that football is being played, it’s only a matter of time before frost comes.  Though on average the low temperature at Dulles airport doesn’t reach 32 degrees until November 26th, it has reached freezing as early as September 24th in 1974, though we’ve never had snow before mid-October.  On the 25th, just after astronomical autumn (the equinox) is when the nights begin to be longer than the days and it starts to cool off considerably.  

My rain gauge in Lorton recorded 1.00” of rain through 6 am Sunday of last week.
