Hooting, hollering and jumping for joy - the students of Laurel Hill Elementary School in Lorton rushed out the front doors on Tuesday to the sound of applause from staff and parents. Sixth graders were congratulated on their rise to middle school, while younger children hugged teachers and gave high-fives to their peers.
When asked what the last day of school means for him, Assistant Principal, Baek Chong said: "It's a holiday for everyone, for parents, students and the staff."
For Chong, the short two and a half hour day is fun. "The kids are having a great time," he said. "Everyone gets to see each other one last time, say their goodbyes and make plans for the summer. It's exciting!"
