Photos of the Day: National Night Out
Communities across Lorton gathered this evening as part of "America's Night Out Against Crime".
The "28th Annual National Night Out" (NNO) is a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). Communities across the country hold registered block parties and gatherings designed to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Several Lorton communities registered their block parties this evening and received a visit from local Fairfax County police officers. Organizers we also sent items for the kids and residents that listed 911 and non-emergency police phone numbers, along with print collateral about community programs and crime prevention.
Patch visited block parties in the neighborhoods of Laurel Crest and Newington Forest and ended our evening at the Lorton Library where McGruff the Crime Dog was taking a bite out of crime.
