Police: Armed Suicidal Man in Stable Condition After Officer Shooting

An armed suicidal man is in serious but stable condition after being shot by police Monday.

Fairfax County Police were dispatched Monday to the 7000 block of Old Keene Mill Road for a report of an armed suicidal man in his 60s, according to a news release from police.

Upon arrival on the scene, officers contained the area and coordinated a lock down of Garfield Elementary School, 7101 Old Keene Mill Road, in addition to evacuating the location, which was the Springfield United Methodist Church, 7047 Old Keene Mill Road.

After officers contained the scene and while awaiting the arrival of SWAT officers and trained negotiators, they encountered the man which resulted in an officer involved shooting. The man is in serious but stable condition at a local hospital.

FCPD did not say what time Monday the incident took place.
