A 47-year-old man was fatally wounded at the Sequoyah housing complex near late Wednesday night.
At 11:30 p.m., police were initially called for a noise complaint at the intersection of San Leandro Place and Mendocina Place, according to Fairfax County Police spokesman Bud Walker.
Once responding officers arrived at the scene, in the Sequoyah condominium complex parking lot, they discovered an adult male sitting in a vehicle with gunshot wounds to the upper body. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident is under investigation as a homicide.
"We have no reason to believe this was a suicide," Walker said.
Detectives have identified the victim, but next of kin have not yet been notified.
