3 Manassas City Council Members Seek Appointment As Interim Mayor
Three members of Manassas' City Council have announced their intention to seek appointment as the city's interim mayor.
MANASSAS, VA — Three members of the Manassas City Council are seeking appointment as the city's interim mayor following the resignation of Michelle Davis-Younger.
Vice Mayor Mark Wolfe and Council members Tom Osina and Ralph Smith submitted their names for consideration during a special meeting of the City Council on Monday. Currently, Wolfe is performing the duties of mayor.
Davis-Younger's resignation took effect Sept. 30, leaving a vacancy in an elected term that runs through Dec. 31, 2028. Under the process outlined by the city, the council can appoint one of its members or another qualified Manassas voter to fill the position until the next municipal election, in November 2027.

Monday's special meeting formally identified the candidates but does not include an appointment vote. Publicly announcing the candidates begins a required seven-day waiting period, meaning the council cannot make the appointment before Oct. 12, according to the Manassas Journal. No appointment vote has yet been scheduled.
If the council selects Wolfe, Osina or Smith, that person would give up their City Council seat upon qualifying as mayor, creating a vacancy on that body.
