MANASSAS, VA – Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Manassas on Friday that killed a teenage girl, Manassas police announced today.
At a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon, Manassas City Police Chief Doug Keen announced the arrests of two more men in the case: a 19-year-old and a 23-year-old. Both are being held without bond.
Xavier Wanzer, 19, of Orange, is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting in a public place within 1,000 feet of a school.
Talib Davis, 23, from Fauquier County. He is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, felon in possession of a firearm and shooting in a public place within 1 000 feet of a school.
The two were apprehended separately with the help of U.S. Marshals, Keen said, with one arrested in Prince William County and one in Remington. A total of three people have now been arrested over the shooting: Tasheem Douglas, 21, was arrested over the weekend. He is charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting in a public place within 1,000 feet of a school.
All have been arrested in connection with the death of 16-year-old Ashley Intihar at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday. Police say the girl was caught in the crossfire as she attended the city's First Friday gathering.
One of the men arrested on Tuesday is free on bond pending trial for what the police chief said were serious charges. Douglas is confirmed to have been out on bond, with serious charges pending against him, stirring controversy.
"That should be frustrating for me, that should be frustrating for you, that should be frustrating for everybody," Keen said.
Keen thanked the community for their response, including sharing photos, videos and tips. He said reviewing video helped police conclude that there had been three shooters, not two.
Keen also said the three shooters knew each other and had had a conflict in the past, pitting Douglas against the two men arrested on Tuesday.
Keen requested that the privacy of the victim's family be respected. He revealed that the teen's family members had not even been able to view her until Tuesday because of the investigation.
