Democratic Candidates Lead In Fundraising For Manassas City Council Race

MANASSAS, VA – Two Democrats lead in fundraising in the Manassas City Council race, as of August 31st filings.

According to the Virginia Public Access Project, Democratic hopeful Dianne Lane leads the seven-person field with $20,216 on hand as of the most recent filing. She's followed by fellow Democrat Jill Spall with nearly $16,000 and Democrat Helen Zurita and incumbent Republican Theresa Coates Ellis, who each have nearly $11,000.

The majority of Lane's donations have come in amounts of $100 or less. Her largest donations appear to have come from individuals, none greater than $1,350. A major contributor was the Prince William Proud PAC, which donated $750 to her campaign as well as to Spall's. Lane has spent just over $6,480.

Spall's contributions are split almost equally between those over and under $100. Her largest donations also appear to have come from individuals, none exceeding $1,500. The Prince William Proud PAC donation was among her largest. Spall has spent just over $4,600

The bulk of donations to Ellis's campaign have come in amounts larger than $100. Her biggest single donation for this race so far has come from YES PAC, the political action committee created by Prince William County supervisor Yesli Vega, which donated $3,000. She has spent just over $968 this year.

Most of Zurita's contributions have also come in amounts of less than $100. Her largest donation for this campaign so far is $2,000 from Stonebridge Capital, LLC. She has spent just over $5,400.

Colin Turner leads in fundraising among the three independent candidates in the race with a total of $8,638. The majority of his contributions have been in amounts of less than $100. He's spent just over $2,400.

Lynn Forkell Greene has raised $2,079 so far, and Eugene Brown $350.

According to VPAP, the three winners of the last City Council election in 2024 spent from $9,000 to nearly $38,000 during the campaign.

Early voting has already begun in the race to fill three seats on the council. The outcome will be decided on Nov. 3.
