Early Voting For 2026 Election Begins: What's On The Manassas Ballot

MANASSAS, VA — Manassas voters will have a crowded ballot in the Nov. 3 general election, with races for U.S. Senate, Congress, a special Virginia House of Delegates election, Manassas City Council and School Board.

Voters will also decide three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution.

Early in-person voting begins Friday, Sept. 18, and continues through Saturday, Oct. 31. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

U.S. Senate

Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Warner is seeking another term against Republican Bert Mizusawa, who won the Republican nomination in the Aug. 4 primary.

The candidates are:

• Mark Warner — Democrat
• Bert Mizusawa — Republican

10th Congressional District

Manassas is part of Virginia's 10th Congressional District.

Democratic incumbent Rep. Suhas Subramanyam is seeking reelection against Republican Dave Beckwith and independent Ahsen Mujeeb Malik. Steven Goforth and Omar Morsy are running write-in campaigns and therefore do not appear as named candidates on the ballot.

The candidates appearing on the ballot are:

• Suhas Subramanyam— Democrat
• Dave Beckwith — Republican
• Ahsen Mujeeb Malik — Independent

Beckwith secured the Republican nomination in the Aug. 4 primary. Subramanyam did not face a Democratic primary challenger.

House District 20 Special Election

Manassas voters will also choose a new representative in the 20th District of the Virginia House of Delegates.

The special election follows the resignation of former Del. Michelle Maldonado. The winner will serve the remainder of the term, which expires in January 2028. The district includes Manassas, Manassas Park and part of Prince William County.

The candidates are:

• Sonia Ruth Vasquez Luna — Democrat
• Nathaniel "Nate" Fritzen — Republican

Vasquez Luna currently serves on the Manassas City Council.

Manassas City Council

Seven candidates are running for three seats on the Manassas City Council.

Incumbent Theresa Coates Ellis is seeking reelection. The other two seats are currently held by Ralph Smith, who is not seeking another term, and Sonia Vasquez Luna, who is running in the House District 20 special election.

The seven candidates are:

• Eugene "Doc" Brown
• Theresa Coates Ellis
• Lynn Forkell Greene
• Dianne Lane
• Jill Spall
• Colin Turner
• Helen Zurita

Coates Ellis is the Republican candidate. Lane, Spall and Zurita are the Democratic nominees, while Brown, Greene and Turner are running as independents.

Virginia law does not allow party designations to appear on the ballot for local candidates, so those affiliations will not be printed next to City Council candidates' names.

Manassas City School Board

Six candidates are seeking three seats on the Manassas City School Board.

The candidates are:

• Sara Brescia
• Raul Campoverde
• Murina Dove
• Javanese M. Hailey
• Lisa Anne Stevens
• Marcus Still

Brescia and Stevens are incumbents.

School Board elections are nonpartisan, meaning candidates do not have party affiliations listed beside their names on the ballot. Political parties may endorse candidates, but those endorsements do not change the race's official nonpartisan status.

Three Constitutional Amendments

Manassas voters will also decide three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution.

The proposals concern abortion, marriage and restoration of voting rights for people convicted of felonies after they complete their prison sentences.

• Question 1: reproductive rights
• Question 2: same-sex marriage
• Question 3: restoration of voting rights.

Each proposal will appear as a separate question on the ballot.

Early Voting In Person

Early voting begins Friday, Sept. 18 and continues through 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.

Early voting is available here:

• Voter Registration Office, 9025 Center St., Manassas.

The office is open Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. It will be closed on Oct. 12.

On Sunday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 25, the office will be open from 12-5 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 31, the office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Election Day, all polling places remain open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The City of Manassas has 6 Election Day polling locations. Find them here.

The Voter Registration & Elections Office is used only for early voting and is not an Election Day polling place.

Early Voting By Mail

Manassas voters may also request an absentee ballot by mail.

The deadline for the registrar's office to receive a request for a mailed ballot is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23.

Voters can apply for an absentee ballot through the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal.

Key Voting Dates

• Sept. 18: Early in-person voting begins.
• Oct. 23: Regular voter-registration deadline.
• Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.: Deadline to request a ballot by mail.
• Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.: Early in-person voting ends.
• Nov. 3: Election Day. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Virginia allows eligible residents who miss the regular registration deadline to use same-day registration and cast a provisional ballot through Election Day.
