Bi-County Parkway By the Numbers: Does Population Spike Prove Need?
As Loudoun moves to third in county population estimates, advocates say road is needed for "regional equity."
An estimated spike in Loudoun County's population has put a feather in the cap of supporters of a controversial Bi-County Parkway with Prince William County.
Loudoun County saw the biggest population increase of any county in the state between 2010 and 2013, according to a report from the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. The study estimates that an additional 50,000 residents will settle in Loudoun County by 2020.
The Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance noted the population for Loudoun and Prince William counties compares to Washington, D.C. and Arlington — two communities connected by six Potomac River bridges and a tunnel that include two interstate highways and several Metro lines.

Critics have argued a new North-South corridor isn't needed for commuters and would instead promote additional development in rural areas.
