“I am very humbled by this and also very grateful. I know my childbirth education classes have a low C-section rate from them and I would love to be able to teach other moms/couples ways to help get their babies here safely and hopefully without going through major abdominal surgery,” said Bookwalter, who finds her passion in helping families prepare to bring their babies “Earth side.” Bookwalter teaches “Basic Childbirth 101,” “Advanced Childbirth 101.5” and ‘Weekend Madness: Basic Childbirth 101” classes on an ongoing basis at George Mason University’s Freedom Aquatics and Fitness Center in Manassas.Red Tricycle is a digital city guide and community for parents. “I started Red Tricycle when I was pregnant with my son, as a way to see the city through the new (often smudged) lens of parenthood,” said founder Jacqui Boland. “It was also a way to connect with other parents who were doing the same thing — trying new restaurants, keeping up with cultural happenings, planning fun weekend adventures — all with a 20-pound stroller in tow.”
