Do You Have a Healthy Relationship With Your Computer?

People are spending an increasing amount of time with their computers. When those computers quit working like they are supposed to that can unleash powerful emotions. I can help.

It’s a relationship you may spend more time on than any other. It deepens every year. And when things go wrong, you become afraid, tearful, and in some cases so angry that you lash out – maybe even by throwing things – but you’re willing to go right back into the relationship no matter what happens.

What am I talking about? The bond you have with your computer. If you work in an office, chances are you spend more time on your computer using email than having conversations with real live human beings. If you’re a student, you are probably surfing the Internet, watching videos on YouTube and visiting social media sites.  Parents may be sharing photos of their children online, visiting message boards, or doing some shopping.  There are probably some computer users who spend more cumulative time on the PC than with their significant other, best friend, parents, or even their children.

  • 19% of the survey respondents admitted to wanting to hurl it out the nearest window;
  • 9% felt stranded and alone;
  • 11% used profanity;
  • 7% did so loudly,
  • 3% did so tearfully; and
  • another 3% vented their frustration on inanimate objects.

With these results it should not come as a surprise that 48% of respondents said that they would rather help a friend move than deal with a computer problem, and 30% said they felt more frustration with their computer now than in previous years.
