Put Your Best Yard Forward
Manassas City neighborhood takes on landscape challenge. How welcoming is your curb appeal?
Here’s an interesting way to challenge the neighbors on your block to freshen your community's curb appeal, just in time our Sesquicentennial visitors. Have a contest!
Cannon Ridge, a Manassas City Best of Neighborhoods winner in 2008 and 2010, took a curb appeal challenge to its residents with a landscaping contest in spring 2011.
Altavista Landscaping, in cooperation with the Cannon Ridge Homes Association Board of Directors, offered prizes in three categories: Front Entryway, Back or Side Yard, and Flowering Plants, Shrubs and Trees. Judges were selected from Altavista Landscaping, the association’s property manager Sequoia Management Company, and the association’s board of directors. Landscaping was judged on color, texture, proportion, soil stability and creativity.

Residents of six properties on Old Hickory Court, Terrace View Court and Cannon Ridge Drive were awarded prizes. Although they did not officially enter the contest, 15 more residents whose properties were on the same streets and Brigade Court were selected for honorable mention.
The Best Overall award went to the residents of a home on Old Hickory Court.

“All these residents showed merit in maintaining and beautifying Cannon Ridge,” said Cannon Ridge Homeowners Association president Audrey Sensale. “Congratulations!”
If you think Sesquicentennial visitors are only going to be in Old Town Manassas or at the Manassas National Battlefield Park, think again. More than 12,000 visitors a day, traveling by shuttle bus along residential streets to seven historic sites throughout the city, are expected July 21-24. In addition, participants of the Manassas Civil War Military Parade will be marching from Old Town Manassas to Liberia Plantation via Portner Avenue, a residential street, on Friday, July 22 at 10 am.
Let's put our best yard forward by going above and beyond, like the award-winning Cannon Ridge neighborhood.
