Dear Shopper,

We are back in Bristow and couldn’t be happier to be back where we belong. We were offered several other sites in the western Prince William area but we held out, worked hard, and had lots of help and support to land at Piney Branch Elementary School. Thanks to many people who worked hard and fast, we will now be the first farmers’ market on public school property in Northern Virginia.

In my opinion, this is where markets ought to be -- in the center of the community and working with it to get us all eating a healthy diet. So come join us once again for the best guaranteed-local food around.

Many of your old favorites will be back -- Tyson Farms and Tony Fetters Fruit Farm will have peaches, cherries, plums, and berries. Jose Montoya will have tomatoes and corn -- the early bi-color corn is my favorite. Mike Burner is digging potatoes of all shapes, sizes and colors as fast as he can, and boy are they good. It’s easy to forget what potatoes are supposed to taste like if all we eat are storage potatoes from the grocery store.

Luis Gutierrez of Small Pond Farm comes from Spotsylvania County and will have summer squashes and peppers but also some late spring produce that Jose down in Colonial Beach has stopped picking.

Rashmi of PeachTree Sweets will bring her great biscotti and chocolate goodies and some Indian specialities including mango mousse -- a great summer treat. Shelby will be back with her cupcakes and other baked goods for children of all ages. Delicias del Sur will have their now-famous empanadas and alfajores. Pablo will be there with all of his wonderful Great Harvest breads, pet treats, and granola -- he’s full of surprises and good food, too.

Heritage Kettle Corn will be back and poppin’ like crazy to keep up with the demand, and Abbie is adding peach iced tea to her iced tea bar this week.

Blue Dog BBQ will be on hand as always. We know you have missed Mike, Debby, and the crew. We will welcome one of our newest vendors: Divine Wood Fired Pizza. Created with market ingredients on site -- how’s that for fresh pizza?

We also introduce Bon Vivant -- a clever idea developed by one man who wanted to help Shenandoah Valley farmers and graziers transport their fine grass-fed meats to markets in Northern Virginia. Jawad will be bringing meats from Polyface, Coulter, and Edgemont farmers and enough country eggs to feed an army. Stanley Feder, DC’s premier sausagemaker, makes sausages from Jawad’s own recipes -- you must try the Lamb Merguez. And Jawad hopes to bring us artisanal cheeses soon.

Look for Betty and her salsas, guacamole, and black-bean dip -- soon she will bring enchiladas again. Arka of KustomCoffee should be back with his expertly-roasted coffees, and Pastor will return with his small-batch chocolate all the way from the Amazon.

We’re also considering applications from new vendors. We look forward to seeing all of you again, and we thank you for your patience. We’re here to stay.
