We're still at our temporary site this week at the intersection of Nokesville Rd. and Fitzwater Dr. We'll have live music from mandolinist Tara Linhardt.

This Week at our Bristow/Nokesville Market
Sunday 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Nokesville Rd. and Fitzwater Dr.
Nokesville, VA 20181
Map

(Directions to market from Bristow: At the intersection of Linton Hall Rd. and Nokesville Rd. (Rt. 28), turn right from Linton Hall to go south. The market is about 3.5 miles down the road. There is a traffic light at the intersection and a small strip center with a Carini’s Pizza right at the intersection. The market sets up next to that center, and you may park in its parking lot.)

Dear Shopper,

We are not only inviting you to join us in Nokesville for one more week but encouraging you to drive no more than five miles down the road into the countryside and visit the community that produced several of the vendors in our market. From our previous location, it takes less than 10 minutes to be walking and shopping your way through a lovely piece of land with tall trees, old stumps, and new-mown grass just waiting for a picnic blanket to be thrown upon it. Come settle in, buy some Blue Dog BBQ or put together a picnic from other market fare, and chill while you listen to the swing tunes of mandolinist Tara Linhardt and vocalist George Crowley. Tara is well-known among bluegrass aficionados across Virginia and around the world, and she has volunteered to grace our market while we work hard to keep you coming to our temporary location.

We also will welcome a new vendor. A gentleman named Jawan Laouaouda has created a business called Bon Vivant, which helps farmers in the southern Shenandoah Valley send their meats to markets in distant population centers in Virginia. How else would we be able to buy meats from Polyface, Piney River and Coulter Farms? You may have heard of Polyface, whose Joel Salatin appears in this video. This week farms are sending grass-fed and grass-finished beef, pastured pork, free-range chicken and lamb, and lots of country eggs. Finally, we have enough eggs to meet the demand.

Max Tyson will have cherries and raspberries this week, and Jose Montoya and Luis Gutierrez will have beets of many colors, kohlrabi, fennel, and fantastic-looking collards. Some of these vegetables will be out of season soon, but the summer squash, cherry tomatoes and sweet corn (yes, it’s here!) will be with us throughout the summer. We may have some blueberries, too — they were just beginning to ripen early in the week.

Betty will be sending her black bean dip and guacamole in addition to those great salsas. Flor and her family will have authentic Peruvian empanadas, and Pastor will have Bolivian-grown chocolate that is as good as any European chocolate for eating or cooking that I have tasted or cooked with. Of course Pablo will be on site with his wide selection of breads and other items from Great Harvest, and Rashmi will have Indian savories and American sweets, and vice versa. Shelby will bring lots of cheer and cupcakes decorated to order. Just pick your cupcake flavor, your favorite frosting and the toppings of your choice and watch her work. And then you can eat it right there!

Mike Burner is beginning to pick from his sustainable garden, but he still has lovely plants and herbs for your own garden. Michael Frank will have his essential oils, spice blends, and certified-organic herb plants.

And Heritage Kettle Korn will join us as well. You will never go hungry as long as there is Kettle Korn. I am sure someone famous said that — it’s so profound!

Please come out and support your favorite vendors while we work to go back to Bristow! We are almost there. And thanks to all of you who found us last week.

See you at the market!
