This Week at the Smart Markets Bristow Farmers' Market

Our new ice cream vendor will join us this week, and watermelons are making their first appearance at the market for the season.

A Note About the Weather

We are doing our best to remain open with normal hours and with all of our vendors on site for the next few days. Some of our vendors have products that do not hold up well in the heat, and of course some vendors may also begin to flag after a few hours in 100-degree temperatures.

So come early if you can and understand that we may need to close this week’s market earlier than usual. We appreciate your understanding and hope that you will appreciate with even more enthusiasm than you normally display the efforts these vendors are making to bring their wares to you and sell outdoors in this heat. We were amazed by how many showed up last weekend and equally amazed by how many shoppers have braved the heat to support them. Thanks again for your patience.

New Vendors This Week

Let’s try this again — we hoped to have Cows-n-Corn with us for the first time last week, but they were without power and working hard to save their ice cream. They do plan to join us this week. Hopefully they saved enough to meet the demand!

Vendors Absent This Week

Divine Wood Fired Pizza will join us again next week.

On the Way In and Out

The Fetters brothers are sending more peaches, plums, nectarines, and berries in addition to the last of the apples. Don’t forget to pick up some of their canned items. The peach BBQ sauce is wonderful, as is their sour cherry juice.

Max Tyson is sending the first of his tomatoes this week — and I know you have been waiting for them! They are especially good for canning and sauces to preserve that taste of summer all year long. And everyone loves them on a burger or a sandwich — they are great slicing tomatoes too.

Jose Montoya will bring melons over the next few weeks, and you will find that there is no comparison between just-picked melons and those in the grocery store. Jose will have some cut for sampling — you won’t be able to resist once you taste.

This Week at the Market

We want to thank our hosts again for all the work they are doing on our behalf — we are now on the electronic sign out on Linton Hall Road, and one of the Piney Branch moms was on site last week taking pictures for the school’s website. How great is that? We hope to return the favor many times over during the course of the school year as we work with the school to build healthier families and earn points for the Governor’s Healthy School Initiative.
