Vendors Absent This Week
No BBQ or pizza this weekend -- everyone deserves a vacation! And have we got some great recipes for sides and end-of-summer peach desserts! If you’ve been waiting for apples all year, we also have a grand selection of apple recipes too.

Mike Burner will also take the week off -- his landlord is in the hospital, and it has fallen to Mike to cut and bail the hay. He will be back with us next week.
On the Way In and Out
Those peaches are on their way out, but the Honeycrisp apples have joined the growing number of varieties, and Max Tyson is also bringing yellow and brown Asian pears. We have recipes for those, too. Fossil Rock will have sweet corn that is really sweet, a lovely selection of sustainably grown vegetables and more! . They will also bring cut herbs, great peppers and chilies, tomatoes, cut zinnias, and beautiful sunflowers.

Jose and Luis are both bringing summer and winter squashes, so you can make a summer squash sauté and acorn squash bisque for that all-local Labor Day picnic. And the melons are still sweet and full of flavor. Don’t forget the ice cream for dessert. It’s hard to beat the ice cream made on the farm at Cows-N-Corn. Try it! You’ll love it!
Special Events This Week
Join certified health coach Patty Repko Sunday for a cooking and nutrition demo about teaching kids to make healthy choices. The event will feature a Nutrition Detectives presentation with handouts and resources about teaching kids to eat healthful foods. And there will be a cooking demo of dishes highlighting local ingredients. See our website for more information.
The cow train is coming this weekend as promised last weekend, but I am glad we postponed it. The kiddies will be able to hop on and ride free around the parking lot while Mom shops. Thanks to Cows-N-Corn, our ice-cream vendor, for the extra fillip of fun.
Don’t forget that Monday is the deadline for voting for our market as one of America’s Favorite Farmers’ Markets! Just go to this web page and type “Smart Markets Bristow” where it says “Cast Your Vote.”
