Dog Food Giveaway Comes To PWC Animal Shelter On Saturday

The Prince William County Animal Shelter is hosting a dog food giveaway on Saturday morning to help pet owners who need assistance.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A dog food giveaway is coming to the Prince William County Animal Shelter on Saturday, the animal services bureau announced on Facebook.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the animal shelter at 14807 Bristow Road in Manassas. The giveaway will continue until 2 p.m. or until supplies run out.

On Monday, animal services officials announced the giveaway. They said the support of the community in recent weeks granted them more than enough food to support the dogs in their care.

"We’re extremely grateful to our communities generosity this holiday season. As a result of this generosity we’ve found ourselves with an abundance of dog food," the animal services bureau wrote on Facebook. "We believe that every dog deserves access to nutritious and high-quality food."

Recent studies from the Best Friends Animal Society found that financial difficulties, including the cost of food, is a common cause of animal surrenders in the United States. About 7 percent of animal surrenders are caused by financial issues in the owner's life, according to the animal society.
