Vehicle Driver Expected To Survive Train Collision, Charges Pending: Police
Prince William County Police say the train collision happened in an area without train stop arms at the crossing.

BRISTOW, VA — The driver whose vehicle was hit by a train Tuesday in Bristow is expected to survive, according to a Prince William County Police report.
The crash happened around 9:21 a.m. Tuesday at the railroad crossing in the area of Milford Road, a private road off Bristow Road. Police say the driver, only identified as a 54-year-old man, was extricated from the was heading westbound on Milford Road and crossed over a private train crossing. The vehicle was struck by a southbound Amtrak passenger train at the crossing. The train had left the Manassas station minutes earlier, according to a Prince William Professional Firefighters report.

The crash caused the truck to end up on its side, and a trailer the truck was hauling became separated. Fire and rescue crews extricated the driver, and he was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other reported injuries.
Police say Milford Road is a private road and has posted stop signs and warnings. The railroad crossing at the location does not have train stop arms.

An investigation found the train was traveling at about 74 mph, and the locomotive engineer sounded the train's horn before the crossing. The train stopped about a half to three-quarters of a mile from the crash location.
Charges are pending in the crash.
