Dump Truck Crash Closes Route 29 In Fauquier County: Police

A dump truck crashed into a traffic signal pole on Route 29 in Fauquier County Wednesday morning, forcing police to re-route traffic.

FAUQUIER COUNTY, VA โ€” A dump truck collided with a car on Route 29 in Fauquier County Wednesday morning and then ran into a guard rail and hit a traffic signal pole, according to the Virginia State Police. A downed utility wire and the traffic signal pole from the crash were blocking all of the southbound lanes on Route 29 (Lee Highway), causing major traffic delays.

The driver of the dump truck, Wayne E. Piel Sr. of Manassas, suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was transported to the Novant Health UVA Haymarket Medical Center. The driver of the car was uninjured in the cash.

Around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, Piel was traveling south on Route 29 in his dump truck when he attempted to avoid a stopped vehicle in the right lane at the intersection with Route 215 (Vint Hill Road). His truck then collided with a Subaru Forester and ran off the road. Piel was charged with reckless driving.
