Eagles Edge Bobcats, 28-21

Defense comes up with big plays in district-opening win.

Osbourn (5-2, 1-0) defeated Battlefield (5-2, 1-1) 28-21 in the district opener Thursday night to extend their win streak to five.

As expected, the matchup between the two Cedar Run District rivals was an exciting battle all the way to the last minutes of the game.

"They were a really good team, so I am really proud of our kids," Head Coach Steve Schultze said.

In a scoring contest that saw three ties and four lead changes, it was the Eagles defense that made the big plays of the game. There were several key Battlefield drives that were cut short by Osbourn's defense, but none bigger than the final Bobcats possession.

Facing a third down and six, Battlefield quarterback Ryan Swingle dropped back to pass but was wrestled down by Osbourn nose guard Frankie Wilson for a nine-yard sack. This led to an incomplete pass on fourth and long and allowed Osbourn to run out the remainder of the clock.

"We had some huge defensive stops today and it's a good thing because we needed them," Schultze said.

Offensively, the Eagles got another stellar performance out of Senior Cedrick Delaney, who carried the ball 28 times for 175 yards and all four of Osbourn's touchdowns. Connor Lane and Eric Robinson both added 57 yards on the ground as Osbourn did not attempt one pass all game.

"I'm excited about it. We still have a lot of work to do, but this is a huge win for our program and our kids," Schultze added.
