Eagles Soar Over Freedom

Osbourn Eagles defeat Freedom High School in Friday night match-up; advance to 4-0

The Osbourn Eagles hosted the Eagles of Freedom High School for a league match-up Friday night.

Osbourn had won the first three games of the season heading into the game and the was looking to take advantage of playing at home for another win. Freedom fought hard but Osbourn's talent and experience really shined through as they crushed Freedom, 81-45.

The game remained close for the first few minutes of the opening quarter but then Osbourn began to dominate. The Eagles were just too much on the defensive end as they forced a ton of turnovers and turned them into transition baskets. Freedom was sucked into playing Osbourn's style of basketball, which involves a lot of running and eventually the Freedom players just couldn't keep up.

The second half is usually when Osbourn really pulls away and that proved to be true again on Friday night. The Eagles held a lead going into the half but turned up the intensity even more after the half. Osbourn also proved that they can get production from anyone on their roster as every player on the team scored at least one point.

The Eagles were lead by Corey Bedford who scored 18 points and also had five steals. Osbourn point guard, Cedrick Delaney tallied 16 points, Raphael Edwards had 13, Jay Lane had eight, and Denzel Lay scored seven points to go along with four rebounds and four blocks.

Osbourn improved to 4-0 with the victory.

Still, head coach Mike Dufrene knows that his boys can play a lot better.  Several of the players are also football players who are still working themselves back into basketball shape.

Osbourn will likely get even better as the season progresses which could be bad news for future opponents. The Eagles will be back in action on Monday night as they travel to Woodbridge to take on the Vikings at 7:30.
