'Elf on the Shelf' Lurking in Prince William County Libraries
They're hiding in various areas and waiting for kids to find them. Then, take a selfie and post it on social media with #libraryelfie.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Here's a twist on what has become a holiday tradition, welcome or not, for many families with young children.
We're talking about "The Elf on the Shelf" — the elf, not the book.
And in public libraries throughout Prince William County, you'll find both. It's part of a program this month in which elves hide in different areas of the library and wait for children to find them.

Once kids find the elves, they (or their parents) are encouraged to take a selfie with the elf on post it on social media with the hashtag #libraryelfie.
"If you would like to see pictures that you upload or other people upload, check it out at Facebook," said Kristen Burnham, the children's librarian at Central Community Library. "We also have Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram. #libraryelfie is the hashtag… just put that in and you'll be able to see all the other pictures people have uploaded."
