The Center for the Arts’ Rooftop Productions announces auditions for its fall show THE FANTASTICKS. This moving tale of romance is the longest running production of any kind in the history of American theatre. With the book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, its most popular song “Try to Remember” has been a hit since the musical opened in 1960. The story involves two fathers who are trying to have their children fall in love and stage a mock feud between themselves. They figure that this will give them an excuse to say no to the relationship, which of course will simply encourage the children’s love even more. They even stage a mock abduction but things to do not go exactly as planned.
Rooftop’s production of THE FANTASTICKS will audition on Wed., Aug. 15 and Fri., Aug. 17 from 7:30-9:30pm with call backs on Sat., Aug. 18 from 10am-12pm at the Center for the Arts at the Candy Factory, 9419 Battle Street, Manassas. Performances are scheduled in the Center’s Kellar Theatre on Fridays and Saturdays from Nov. 2-17. Well known actress and director, Ellen Young will direct and JoEllen Livingston will musically direct. Those auditioning should be prepared with a song from the show and a monologue of their choice. Characters in the show include a female age 19-22, male age 20-25, five male or female actors age 35+, and a non-singing role age 20+.
