Police Address Emergency Response At 2 Schools In Manassas
Manassas Police responded to two schools Thursday morning after false lockdown alerts went out.

MANASSAS, VA — Manassas Police responded to Osbourn High School for a lockdown alert, but it appears to be a false alarm. A second false lockdown alarm activated at a second school, Mayfield Intermediate School.
Officers were on the scene of Osbourn High School as of 9:12 a.m. Police said there was no threat at the school after a false alarm for a lockdown. The school resource officer was present at the time and reported a technical error with the alert. Police gave an all-clear as of 9:13 a.m., and the normal school day resumed.
"We have been in direct communication with the school administration," Manassas Police said.

As of 10:26 a.m., Manassas Police said they responded to a Mayfield Intermediate School for another technical issue with the lockdown. A school resource officer was on the scene, and police said there was no threat.
Manassas City Public Schools addressed the issue in a message to families. The school system said a technology error caused an inaccurate lockdown alert in the school.

In keeping with our safety protocols, we immediately responded with caution to ensure the safety of all students and staff," MCPS said. "With support from the Manassas City Police Department, it was quickly confirmed that the alert was a false alarm.
