Gainesville Woman Awakes To Find Intruder in Her Bedroom

Fleeing her home, she escapes from sexual assault attempt, say Prince William County police.

A Gainesville woman escaped from her home and called the Prince William County police early Tuesday morning after a man entered her bedroom and attempted to sexually assault her.

The suspect fled the area before the police arrived, and there were no injuries, they said. The Prince William police identified the suspect as Maaz Malik, 22, of 8351 Crackling Cedar Lane in Gainesville, and arrested him later on Tuesday without incident.

Malik has been charged with burglary and attempted forcible sodomy, and he’s being held without bond at the Prince William-Manassas regional jail. His next date in court is July 15.

Police officers responded at 6:08 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a burglary in progress at a home in the 7600 block of Jade Drive in Gainesville, according to a police report.

They discovered that the victim, a 28-year-old woman, had been sleeping in an upper-level bedroom when an unknown man entered the room and tried to sexually assault her. Entry is believed to have been made through an unsecured rear door, the police said.
