MANASSAS, VA — A year after starting a home cleaning business in Manassas, Nico Moreyra is already making a name for himself in the Prince William County community as a business owner who cares about his customers and the people who live in the area.

Moreyra wants to give back to the community as much as he can. This week, Moreyra, who owns Two Maids & A Mop of Manassas, is using Valentine's Day to give away a professional home cleaning to a local couple who wants to take a break from their household cleaning chores.

Moreyra, who immigrated to the U.S. from Argentina in 2000, has been giving back to the community with free house cleanings since opening his company's doors in December 2018. He partners with Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit that helps cancer patients with free cleanings for their homes. He is also working with a local organization to help promote and fund adult literacy.

"We've tried to get involved with the community more and more," Moreyra said in an interview with Patch. "The fact that we get to do so much for the community as business owners, it is heart-warming in many ways. It makes me want to do this even more."

When Moreyra was looking to start a franchise in the Manassas area, the fact that Two Maids & A Mop had partnered with Cleaning for a Reason played a role in his decision to pursue a franchise with the home cleaning company. "As I looked at the business model of Two Maids and A Mop during my research into franchising, I found out about them being part of Cleaning for a Reason," he said. "It was a no-brainer for me that I wanted to be a part of that."

Since 2006, Cleaning for a Reason and its partner residential cleaning companies have donated more than $12 million in services, helping more than 39,000 cancer patients.

Two Maids & A Mop franchise owners are not required to partner with Clean for a Reason, but Moreyra has made the charity a big part of his business operations. Every month, Two Maids and A Mop of Manassas provides free home cleanings to two people battling cancer. Each home will get two free cleanings as part of the program.

Next month, Beacon for Adult Literacy is holding its 7th annual Scrabble Scramble fundraiser in Bristow to support adult language learners. One of the prizes given to the winners of the scramble tournament on March 7 will be a free house cleaning from Two Maids and A Mop of Manassas.

"I had to work hard for my citizenship," Moreyra said. "Having been there myself, learning the language and having to study, it just hit home for me. Many of the adults who come to the United States are in their 40s, 50s and 60s. Learning a whole new language at that age can be a little taxing."

Moreyra learned about the Beacon for Adult Literacy program through the local Business Network International, a membership organization for small businesses where members network and get referrals.

Two Maids & A Mop of Manassas serves the City of Manassas as well as Prince William County territory, along with Fauquier and Stafford counties. The Manassas franchise has 10 employees, including Moreyra. Another Two Maids and a Mop franchise serves the Chantilly, Alexandria and Rockville communities.

Founded in 2003, Two Maids and A Map has been one of the fastest growing franchises in the country, especially in the last five years. The company now has more than 80 locations.

For the Valentine's Day cleaning contest, people can be considered for the free cleaning by sharing a photo of their significant others' "honey-do list" by the end of February at which time a winner will be selected for the free home cleaning from Two Maids and A Mop of Manassas.

"This is such a great idea. It's going to be fun for a lot of people," Moreyra said. "Who wouldn't want a clean house as a present?"
